Wounded in action in Vietnam in 1968, Robert returned home and became a passionate advocate for Veterans. From 1969-2000, Mr. Haltiner served in various positions with the Disabled American Veterans, including Financial Officer, Jr. Vice Commander, Sr. Vice Commander, and Chapter Commander. In 1998, he held the position of DAV Dept. Commander. In 1999, he joined the Purple Heart Organization. After completing his term as DAV Commander, Robert began working with the Purple Heart office and became the Department Commander for the Purple Heart. He is active with the United Veterans’ Groups of Oregon, which supports the Veterans’ Legislation at the State Capitol. Robert was appointed to successive 4-year terms on the Veterans Advisory Committee by Governors Kitzhaber and Kulongowski, respectively, is the Treasurer of Veterans’ Charities, Inc. in Portland, and frequently volunteers for the Portland VA Medical Center. Robert is a founding member of the board for Veterans Care Centers of Oregon.
